23 Jun KSC Inc, NAMI Awarded “Best Use of Social Media” during 2022 Giving Challenge
NAMI Sarasota and Manatee Counties, an organization dedicated to helping those on their journey to mental wellness, recently was awarded a $2,000 prize through the 2022 Giving Challenge for Best Use of Social Media.
The organization hired KSC Inc. to create and implement a strategic, integrated communications plan for the 2022 Giving Challenge. A large part of that plan was the use of social media, including before, during and after the event, to communicate to potential and current supporters.
The Giving Challenge, which takes place every two years, is a 24-hour online giving event hosted by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County and generously strengthened by The Patterson Foundation. The event provides nonprofits the opportunity to gain exposure to – and start relationships with – new donors, and for people in Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte and DeSoto Counties to come together to raise as much money as possible for local nonprofits.
To assist with the campaign, NAMI Sarasota and Manatee Counties used its Facebook, Twitter and Instagram channels to reach audiences. The organization also utilized its Instagram accounts for two of its programs – The Lean on Me Project and Youth Moves Suncoast.
KSC identified Facebook as the primary social media channel. An estimated 69% of U.S. adults report using Facebook. Among those who do, 7 out of 10 visit the channel daily and about half (49%) check Facebook more than once a day.
Posts made before the 24-hour event included teasers about NAMI’s Giving Challenge activities and seven reasons to support NAMI’s programs (one made per day leading up to the Challenge). During the event, posts focused on thanking donors and included live coverage of NAMI’s activities. After the event, posts included thank you messages.
The social media campaign culminated to more than 100 posts that resulted in a total reach of more than 6,800. The posts made on Facebook resulted in 105 link clicks during the 24-hour Giving Challenge (this is not counting the estimated 14 post links before the Challenge began).
As a result of the collective outreach efforts (which included social media, direct mail, a special event, board engagement, email blasts and more), NAMI raised $31,460 in donations and matches. These funds will greatly assist NAMI’s mission to help individuals, family members and caregivers on their journey to mental wellness.
